Nutrien Ag Solutions has recently introduced a new biocontrol technology tool for integrated pest management. Francisco Manzano from Loveland Products, the proprietary company for Nutrien, reports that the company’s photosensitizer formulations can now be used in the global agricultural industry. This new tool is designed to control pests and pathogens, providing farmers with new technologies to help manage their crops effectively.

In a recent announcement, Nutrien Ag Solutions disclosed the acquisition of the assets of Suncor Energy AgroScience, which includes several patented and patent-pending technologies in the field of biocontrol. This marks a significant advancement in biocontrol technology for row crop growers, offering high value and cost-effective solutions that are rare in the industry.

The proprietary technology developed by Nutrien aims to offer a new mode of action and advantages in resistance management. Classified as a biocontrol tool, research and field trial data demonstrate the technology’s market-leading potential in delivering efficacy, stability, and economic value comparable to traditional synthetic crop protection inputs.

Manzano predicts that the photosensitizer formulations will be launched in specific global markets by 2025, with product submissions to the EPA in the U.S. expected by 2026.
