Obituary: Larry E. Dillingham (1941-2023) | Remembering a Life Well-Lived in News, Sports, and Career

Larry E. Dillingham, 81, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023, in St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, Youngstown. He was born on October 12, 1941, in Sharon, PA, to Jesse and Cora Johnson Dillingham. Larry married Mary Daugherty on March 25, 1978, and she survives him.

Larry graduated from Brookfield High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Air Force with honor. He worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service in Youngstown, Ohio, for most of his career. Larry enjoyed fishing, sports, and music of all genres. He was also an active member of the former Prince Hall Lodge in Farrell, PA, achieving the distinction of a 32nd Degree Mason. He was an Elder Emeritus of Central Christian Church and was known for his captivating storytelling. Larry was a dedicated fan of the Ohio Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, as well as a lover of Westerns.

Larry is survived by his wife Mary, their daughter Shannon Irvin of Atlanta, GA, their son Christian (Krista) Dillingham of Chicago, IL, and four grandchildren: Destiny Ivey, Skai Irvin, and Eleanor and Cora Dillingham. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC, 264 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146, officiated by Rev. Rick Stauffer. Larry will be interred at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Monday, September 11, 2023, with full military honors.
