Security has been heightened ahead of the India-Pakistan cricket match at the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup in Nassau County, New York. A credible threat from the terror group ISIS-K was reported, leading to increased security measures. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder stated that threats against the event have been received in the past, and recent threats have specifically targeted the game at Eisenhower Park.
Additional security measures were put in place on Sunday in response to a new, more generic threat. Officers have been stationed around the cricket venue to monitor the fence line, check vehicles, and patrol using horses and drones. Commissioner Ryder assured that the stadium would be the safest place in Nassau County, highlighting the extensive security efforts leading up to the tournament.
Officials have been working closely with federal partners such as the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to ensure the safety of spectators and participants at the 2024 Cricket World Cup. Safety protocols include significant restrictions at Eisenhower Park, including closure during the event hours, mandatory metal detector screenings for spectators, and limitations on bags and drones on the premises.
Parking at the venue will be limited to VIP ticket holders, with other spectators directed to park at the Nassau Coliseum and utilize designated rideshare locations for drop-off and pick-up. The collaboration between local and federal law enforcement agencies underscores the commitment to ensuring a secure environment for one of the most highly anticipated cricket matches in the region.
