Officials report two fatalities following crash of World War II-era plane near California airport

Two people on board a World War II historical plane tragically lost their lives on Saturday when the aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Chino Airport in Southern California. The private Lockheed L12 aircraft veered off the runway and came to a stop about 200 yards away in a grass field when firefighters arrived at the scene around 12:35 p.m., as reported by Bryan Turner, the battalion chief with Chino Valley Fire District, to ABC News.

At the time of reporting, the identities of the deceased passengers had not yet been disclosed. Turner mentioned that it was too early to determine the cause of the crash, but there was a fire involved. Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are set to conduct investigations into the incident.

As this is a developing story, further updates will be provided as they become available.
