Olympic Boxing Squad Revealed by Team GB

Delicious Orie and Rosie Eccles stood out by winning gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, showcasing their talent and skill in the sport of boxing. As Team GB prepares for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, they have named a strong squad of six boxers to represent Great Britain.

The team includes super-heavyweight Delicious Orie, heavyweight Pat Brown, light-middleweight Lewis Richardson, middleweight Chantelle Reid, welterweight Rosie Eccles, and bantamweight Charley Davison. Each boxer brings unique strengths and experiences to the squad, with Davison being the only fighter with previous Olympic experience.

Colchester’s Lewis Richardson secured his place in the team after qualifying last week in Thailand, demonstrating his determination and skill in the ring. Davison, who reached the quarter-final stage in Tokyo three years ago, has moved up to bantamweight for the Paris Olympics, aiming to build on her previous experience.

Orie, one of the favourites in the group, has shown exceptional performance, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Alongside Davison and Welshwoman Eccles, she qualified at the 2023 European Games last June, further solidifying her reputation as a top contender.

Despite challenges from the pandemic, Eccles missed out on Tokyo 2020 after contracting coronavirus multiple times, but she has persevered and earned her place on the team for Paris. With big expectations following the success of the Tokyo team, which brought home six medals including two golds, the GB boxing squad is ready to showcase their talent on the world stage.

Team GB chef de mission Mark England expressed confidence in the selected boxers, highlighting their talent, character, and personality in the team. The squad is eager to make their mark at the Games and continue to uphold the legacy of GB boxing on the international stage.
