Bright Omokaro, an ex-Super Eagles International, has shared his insights on what the Super Eagles players need to do in order to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Uyo, Omokaro emphasized the importance of the team spending more time playing and training together to improve their performance. Despite securing a draw at home during the World Cup qualifiers, he believes the team has the potential to showcase their skills and develop an effective strategy to defeat their opponents.

While acknowledging the individual efforts of the players in the last match, Omokaro stressed the need for more collective responsibility to achieve their goals. He pointed out that the team lacked cohesion due to minimal time playing together, emphasizing the importance of unity and intense training to qualify for the World Cup. Omokaro also advised the Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, to consider local players who are motivated and goal-oriented, rather than giving automatic spots to certain players.

In preparation for their next match against Benin Republic, Omokaro urged the Super Eagles to secure a victory to earn valuable points in the qualifiers and increase their chances of making it to the 2026 World Cup. After the draw against Bafana Bafana, the pressure has heightened on the Nigerian team as they currently rank fifth in Group C with three points. With Rwanda, Benin, and South Africa all ahead in points, Nigeria faces a crucial match against Benin Republic to boost their position in the standings. The Super Eagles will face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic on Monday in Abidjan, aiming for their first win in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
