Stuart Kettlewell, the manager of Motherwell, is expecting a fierce battle for the number one goalkeeper position at the club. This comes after the signing of West Ham’s Krisztian Hegyi on loan for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who has yet to play for West Ham, had loan spells at Stevenage and Dutch second-tier side Den Bosch last season. He kept six clean sheets in 17 appearances for Den Bosch and also made his debut for the senior Hungary squad in March 2023.

Hegyi will be competing with Aston Oxborough for the starting goalkeeper spot at Fir Park. Kettlewell expressed his satisfaction with the goalkeeping options at the club, stating that Hegyi brings quality and potential to the team. The manager believes that having two strong goalkeepers will create healthy competition for the starting position.

Kettlewell sees potential in Hegyi, who is only 21 years old, and believes that Motherwell is the perfect environment for the goalkeeper to continue developing. The manager is confident that Hegyi’s abilities will grow in the competitive setting at the club. With both goalkeepers vying for the number one spot, Kettlewell is looking forward to seeing them push each other to perform at their best.
