Opening Dover’s Technology House by TuscBDD

Individuals with disabilities will soon have a unique opportunity to explore how technology can help them live more independently. TuscBDD Superintendent Nate Kamban has announced a partnership with Starlight Enterprises to equip a house owned by the agency with a variety of technological features. These include cameras, a communication system for staff check-ins, voice-activated appliances, and more. Thanks to a grant funding the project, the house will serve as a place for individuals with disabilities to stay overnight and test out these technologies.

To make this space fully functional, Kamban and his team are currently seeking donations of new or gently used furniture and household items. Specifically, they are in need of kitchenware such as pots and pans, new mattresses, a smart TV, and a dining table with chairs. In addition to these items, assistance with landscaping, painting, decorating, and staging the house would also be greatly appreciated.

For those interested in contributing to this initiative, please reach out to facilities director Drew Litty at 330-339-8714 or dlitty@tusbdd.org. The goal is to have the house ready for an open house event in August, with individuals starting to stay there shortly after. This project aims to provide a supportive environment for individuals with disabilities to explore and utilize technology for greater independence.
