Operation of “NEOM Port” Commences.

NEOM, a logistics hub located in Oxagon, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is undergoing a redesign and expansion with the aim of building the next generation of sustainable ports and harbors. Its confirmed investment to date exceeds R7.5 billion. As part of this development, management of Duva Port has been transferred from the National Maritime Regulator Mawani to NEOM, and it has been renamed NEOM Port.

Since the transfer, capabilities at NEOM Port have expanded to include container and general cargo handling due to an increase in the volume of cargo entering NEOM. The first fixed-line container service is operated by CMA CGM, a global sea, air, land, and logistics solutions company. It will provide a direct connection with NEOM through its global network.

Contracts have been awarded for design, dredging and quay construction, and cargo handling equipment. Jacobs has been named the main design consultant, and Moffat, Nicole, IGO, and Trent are the main sub-consultants. BESIX and Modern Building Leaders have established a joint venture with Boskalis to participate in the competitive bidding process for the first phase of the dredging and quay tenders.

The construction of the earthwork platform for the Oxagon development will prioritize the recovery and reuse of materials and structures, resulting in zero material emissions. The quay walls of various types will be over 3 km long, utilizing innovative construction methods and materials with a low-carbon steel frame to reduce the project’s carbon footprint. Contracts have been signed for crane and container equipment with Saudi Liebherr and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. as part of the investment in port development.

By early 2025, the first container terminal with integrated supply chain and logistics solutions will be operational at NEOM Port. It will use 100% renewable energy sources and operate at a net-zero carbon level, making it the most sustainable next-generation port in the world.
