Apr 2, 2024

On the morning of April 2nd, 2024 at approximately 12:50 a.m., Plymouth Police Officers responded to a call at the Economy Inn, 2535 N. Michigan Street, regarding a fight in progress. When they arrived, they found two males who had been involved in a physical altercation. According to the officers’ investigation, the intoxicated males had first engaged in a verbal argument before one of them, identified as Bill Ortiz, 44 of Plymouth, punched the other male in the face, causing injury. Ortiz was then taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail for charges of Battery resulting in Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication. He was assigned a court date and bond.

It is important to note for readers that the charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is just an allegation that a crime has been committed. There is only probable cause to believe that a crime occurred. Individuals are presumed innocent throughout the legal proceedings and have the right to be represented by legal counsel. They are also entitled to a trial by jury, where the State must provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a guilty judgment can be made.
