Our model predicts the winner, playoff odds, and win-loss records for the 2024 World Series champion

Mar 27, 2024

In running 100,000 simulations for the 2024 baseball season through our model, the results were predicted to be an Astros/Dodgers World Series, with a strong presence of west coast teams in both the American League (AL) and National League (NL) playoffs. The projected win-loss records for all 30 MLB teams were used to set up standings for each division, leading to the seeding of six teams for the playoffs, with the best team moving on to the next round.

In the American League, the AL East was predicted to see the Boston Red Sox take the top spot, closely followed by the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. The AL Central was projected to be led by the Chicago White Sox, with the Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals also making the playoffs. The AL West was expected to be dominated by the Houston Astros, with the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics joining them in the postseason.

On the National League side, the NL East was forecasted to be won by the Atlanta Braves, with the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets making it to the playoffs as well. The NL Central was projected to see the Milwaukee Brewers on top, followed by the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. The NL West was expected to have the Los Angeles Dodgers as the division winners, with the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres also earning playoff spots.

In the playoffs, the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, and Seattle Mariners were expected to represent the AL, while the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres were predicted to make it from the NL. Ultimately, the simulations indicated that the Dodgers would defeat the Astros in the World Series matchup.
