Palestine celebrates Spain joining lawsuit against Israel at ICJ over genocide risk in Gaza

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority expressed its gratitude on Thursday for Spain’s decision to join South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel for risk of genocide, calling it a commitment to justice and international law. The Ministry urged other countries to follow suit and join the legal proceedings.

In a statement published on social media, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry called on all States party to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to actively participate in the ICJ proceedings. The Ministry emphasized the need to end the genocide against the Palestinian people and combat Israel’s impunity, stating that it is a responsibility that all nations must uphold for the sake of humanity and the law.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, announced that Spain would join the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel at the ICJ. He cited Israel’s failure to comply with the court’s precautionary measures as justification for Spain’s decision to intervene, noting that these measures are mandatory for all parties involved in the dispute.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority welcomed Spain’s decision and encouraged other countries to support the legal action against Israel. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of upholding justice and international law in the face of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, urging all nations to take a stand against genocide and impunity.
