As the school year approaches, the Central Shenandoah Health District is urging parents to make sure their children are up to date on their vaccinations. Rachel Dumene, communications specialist for the district, emphasized the importance of scheduling vaccination appointments early in the summer to avoid missing out before school starts.

If children are not fully vaccinated before the school year begins, they may not be able to start on time. To schedule an appointment for your child, you can contact your local health department. Dumene noted that there are appointments specifically reserved for school-aged children to ensure they are ready for the upcoming school year.

Appointments can fill up quickly, so it is important to prioritize scheduling your child’s vaccination appointment. Dumene recommended making an appointment as soon as possible to secure a slot. Vaccinations are by appointment only, with after-hours appointments available until 5:30 p.m. for parents who need to go after work.

Ensuring that children are up to date on their vaccinations is essential for their health and the health of the community. By scheduling appointments early and prioritizing their children’s health, parents can help protect their children and others from preventable diseases.
