Parliament’s Impressive Decrees and Confidences Leading Up to the Holidays

As the summer break approaches, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate have about 30 days, or 33 sessions considering Fridays, to approve all pending measures before closing for the summer. This tight timeframe includes several decrees that must be converted into law by early August to avoid expiration. The parliamentary work is set to end between 8 and 9 August, and the two branches of Parliament are gearing up for a busy month ahead.

The group leaders of the House and Senate have met to create a work agenda for July, focusing on approving expiring decrees and other priority measures before the break. Measures such as the Nordio bill on abuse of office and the Cohesion decree are up for discussion and approval in the coming weeks. The government and majority are prepared to use votes of confidence to lock down these measures and ensure timely conversion into law.

The pace is tight in both chambers, with several decrees scheduled for approval before the break. The Cohesion decree, Agriculture decree, and other important measures are on the agenda for July, with deadlines set for conversion into law by early August. Group leaders will convene again in early August to finalize the calendar for the remaining days before the break.

In addition to emergency measures, the government aims to pass some bills before the summer break. These include bills on the start of the new school year, abuse of office, and tax system restructuring. The security bill, however, will likely be postponed until after the summer break, as its discussion in the Chamber of Deputies has been delayed by a month.

Overall, the coming weeks will be a busy time for both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate as they work to approve all pending measures before the summer break. Tight deadlines and the use of confidence votes will characterize this period of intense legislative activity.
