Rookie linebacker Steele Chambers was waived by the Detroit Lions, but quickly found a new home in the NFL with the New England Patriots. Chambers, an undrafted free agent from Ohio State, was claimed off waivers by the Patriots after being let go by the Lions.
The decision to waive Chambers came after the Lions signed veteran Ben Niemann to take his place in the linebacker room following last week’s mandatory minicamp. New England, holding the third spot in the NFL’s waiver claim order, was able to acquire Chambers.
Despite parting ways with Chambers, the Lions still have an open spot on their offseason roster after waiving cornerback Craig James with injury status on Tuesday, the final OTA session for the spring.
This news originally appeared on Lions Wire and highlights the ongoing roster changes and movements happening in preparation for the upcoming NFL season. Chambers’ quick acquisition by the Patriots demonstrates the fluidity of NFL team rosters during the offseason.
