Rookie wide receiver Rory Starkey Jr. is currently attending a minicamp tryout with the New England Patriots, as reported by Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. Starkey honed his football skills at Samford University, where he demonstrated his abilities on the field by recording 27 catches for 240 yards in his last season, with an average of 7.6 yards per catch. His breakout year was in 2019 as a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania when he amassed 39 catches for 743 yards and seven touchdowns.

Starkey’s collegiate career began at Pennsylvania, where he spent four seasons before transferring to Samford in 2023. In 2022, he was honored with a spot on the All-Ivy Second Team after showcasing his talents with 56 catches for 515 yards and four touchdowns.

This unexpected opportunity for Starkey to try out for the Patriots is a chance for him to prove himself and potentially secure a spot on the team’s roster. With the Patriots in need of depth at the wide receiver position, Starkey’s skills and potential contributions could be valuable assets to the team. It is crucial for the Patriots to strengthen their roster and improve their offense, making Starkey’s tryout an important part of their revamp strategy. Stay tuned for updates on Starkey’s performance during the minicamp as the Patriots evaluate their options for the upcoming season.
