Former Roma goalkeeper Pau Lopez is close to making a return to Serie A with newly-promoted Como, reportedly on a loan deal with the option to buy from Olympique Marseille. The 29-year-old goalkeeper previously played for Roma from 2019 to 2021, before moving to Marseille on loan and then permanently for €12 million.
According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Pau Lopez is set to return to Italy this summer as Como looks to strengthen their squad after earning promotion to Serie A by finishing second in the Serie B table. The club is hoping to attract top players, aided by coach Cesc Fabregas.
The move for Pau Lopez is expected to be a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season, with the total cost of the operation estimated to be around €5-6 million. Como had also been linked to Emil Audero, another goalkeeper owned by Sampdoria who spent last season on loan at Inter.
Pau Lopez has previously played for clubs like Espanyol, Real Betis, and Tottenham Hotspur. Additionally, Como recently hosted Raphael Varane and it is reported that he is considering their proposal as well. The club is looking to further strengthen their squad ahead of their return to Serie A.
