Meta has started testing a new functionality in the United States for Instagram content creators that allows them to have their own chatbots for interacting through direct messages (DM). These custom assistants are based on the AI Studio platform, which was initially available to businesses and has now been extended to content creators to provide them with the tools needed to create their own AI software.

Last year, the company announced its plans to introduce generative AI (GenAI) on its platforms to add a fun element to users’ interactions with AI agents, including Meta’s AI assistant and the EMU sticker generator. The AI Studio platform was introduced for developers to create chatbots, and now content creators can use this platform to access the new feature being tested on Instagram.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Instagram that the company is testing a feature that allows users to interact with chatbots developed by content creators themselves. These custom assistants will be clearly labeled as AI when used in direct messages. The initial phase of the test is limited to about 50 content creators in the United States.

Zuckerberg mentioned that the focus of Meta is to allow creators and small businesses to create their own AI to engage with their communities and customers. The company aims to offer different APIs to cater to various interests and needs of people. Through these tests, users will experiment with the feature to determine what works best.

It is unknown if this feature will be officially launched or expanded to other regions. Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of creating tools that generate confidence and engagement among users. The ultimate goal is to provide creators and businesses with the tools they need to enhance their online interactions and customer service.
