The Philadelphia Flyers have made the decision to buy out the remainder of forward Cam Atkinson’s contract. Atkinson had been signed through 2025 and had played with the Flyers for three years, during which he recorded 36 goals and 42 assists in 143 regular-season games.

During the 2021-22 season, Atkinson was honored with the team’s Bobby Clarke Trophy for Most Valuable Player and the Yanick Dupre Class Memorial Award. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2022-23 season due to a neck injury. Flyers general manager Daniel Briere expressed that it was a difficult choice to part ways with Atkinson.

Briere commended Atkinson for his exceptional work ethic, professionalism, and dedication during his time with the Flyers. He highlighted Atkinson’s perseverance during a challenging rehabilitation process and noted his leadership both on and off the ice. Prior to joining the Flyers, Atkinson had spent the first decade of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
