The Philadelphia Phillies faced a setback on Friday as they placed two key players on the injured list after sustaining lower body injuries during Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins. Bryce Harper, the team’s first baseman and an All-Star starter, experienced a hamstring issue while running to first base on the final play of the game, while designated hitter Kyle Schwarber felt groin soreness during his time in the outfield. Both players underwent imaging on Friday, confirming that they had suffered strains.

In corresponding moves, the Phillies activated infielder Kody Clemens and recalled outfielder Johan Rojas from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Harper, with a batting average of .303 and 20 home runs this season, has been a significant contributor to the team with an estimated 3.7 Wins Above Replacement. Schwarber, who has hit 17 home runs and maintained a batting average of .250, has also been valuable with 1.7 WAR.

Both players’ availability for the All-Star Game on July 16 remains uncertain due to their injuries, but more details are expected to emerge as they undergo further evaluation. The Phillies, with a 53-28 record this season, will have to navigate through their upcoming games without Harper, Schwarber, catcher J.T. Realmuto, and pitchers Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull. Despite these setbacks, the team will continue their weekend series against the Marlins as they look to maintain their position at the top of the standings.
