A new medical innovation may soon replace uncomfortable and bothersome medical tests like endoscopy. The PillBot pill, developed by American company Endiatx, is an ingestible pill that has gone through about 50 versions to reach its current size and design. Creator and founder Torrey Smith has tested the prototype up to 43 times and it is now entering the clinical trial phase with $7 million in funding. The company aims to make gastroenterology diagnoses more accessible, convenient, and cost-effective with this new technology.

The pill-like robot features a multi-pump propulsion system and can move in different directions using harmless fluid jets. It has a camera that transmits high-resolution video and LED lights. The device takes advantage of natural intestinal movements to navigate through the digestive system and is equipped with artificial intelligence for autonomous maneuvering. The PillBot pill is expected to improve early and effective detection of gastrointestinal conditions when it goes on sale in 2026.

This innovative technology could be a game-changer for medical diagnostics, offering a less invasive and more efficient alternative to traditional endoscopy. Its autonomous capabilities and advanced features make it a promising solution for improving healthcare and patient experiences in the future.
