Pittsburgh Residents Included in Forbes’ 2024 List of Billionaires

Forbes recently released its annual list of the world’s billionaires, which includes some individuals with ties to Pittsburgh. The list for 2024 features 2,781 billionaires with a combined net worth of $14.2 trillion, calculated using stock prices and exchange rates as of March 8, 2024.

Among the Pittsburghers featured on the list are Maggie Hardy, Mark Cuban, and David Tepper. Thomas Tull and Ron Burkle, who also have connections to Pittsburgh, made the list as well. Tepper, known for founding Appaloosa Management and owning the Carolina Panthers, was ranked at No. 94 with a net worth of $20.6 billion. Cuban, who sold his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks last year, came in at No. 563 with a net worth of $5.4 billion. Hardy, the owner and CEO of 84 Lumber, earned spot No. 775 with a net worth of $4.1 billion. Tull and Burkle, each with net worths of $3 billion, were ranked at No. 1,104.

Tepper, who grew up in Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, is considered one of the greatest hedge fund managers of his generation. Cuban, who hails from Mt. Lebanon and also attended the University of Pittsburgh, recently sold his stake in the Mavericks. Hardy took control of 84 Lumber in 1992 after her father’s passing, and the company remains a significant business in the region. Tull has a minority stake in the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Burkle is a minority stakeholder in the Pittsburgh Penguins.
