A police officer in the south of England attempted to intercept a fleeing cow by ramming it with his service vehicle, sparking outrage all the way up to the Minister of the Interior. The incident occurred in the small town of Staines-upon-Thames, where Surrey Police received reports of a cow in a residential area. Images of the police car hitting the cow twice, trapping its head and upper body under the vehicle, circulated on social media and in British media outlets.

The Minister of the Interior, James Cleverly, expressed strong disapproval of the incident, stating that he saw no reasonable need for such actions and requesting an urgent and complete explanation. The police responded by referring the matter to the local police department and removing the involved officer from duty pending completion of the investigation.

Deputy Chief Constable of Surrey Police, Nev. Kemp, acknowledged the distress caused by the incident and promised a thorough and serious investigation. The police had attempted to capture the cow unsuccessfully and, considering the safety of the public, made the decision to use a car to arrest the animal. The injured cow, named “Beau Lucy,” was examined by a veterinarian and returned to its owner, who reported that it was doing better.
