A significant quantity of sports equipment was stolen during an alumni event in Stoneham. The stolen items included football helmets, field hockey and football jerseys, and practice shorts that belonged to 10 fall sports teams. The theft occurred at an “Alumni Walkthrough” event at the old Stoneham High School, which was closed in preparation for a new high school. Approximately 350 to 400 people were inside the building at the time of the theft.
The Superintendent of Stoneham schools, David Ljungberg, stated that all rooms that were out-of-bounds were locked, including the Athletic Training Room. However, the thieves were able to access the room through an unlocked back door. The Stoneham Athletics Department made a plea on social media for the return of the stolen equipment, as it could jeopardize sports seasons. They urged anyone with information to contact Stoneham police.
Efforts are being made to retrieve the stolen equipment before the start of the fall season. The school system is working closely with the authorities to recover the items. The Stoneham community is urged to return any stolen equipment to prevent disruption to upcoming sports seasons. Contact Stoneham police if you have any information regarding the theft.
