The Entebbe 2024 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports has recently concluded in central Uganda. The event featured competitions in chess and brought together participants from 16 countries. This was the second time that Entebbe hosted a FISU event, following their hosting of the FISU Championship Cross Country in 2014.
Polish players had a strong showing in the chess competitions, capturing three out of four individual titles. In the women’s blitz event, Poland swept the podium with Julia Antolak winning the gold medal, Liwia Jarocka securing silver, and Anna Kubicka taking home the bronze.
In a closely contested women’s classic tournament, Aakanksha Hagawane of India emerged as the gold medal winner, with Saina Salonika finishing in second place and Poland’s Alicja Sliwicka claiming the bronze.
On the men’s side, Milosz Szpar of Poland clinched the gold medal in the classic tournament, with Yovann Gatineau and Benjamin Defromont of France finishing in second and third place, respectively.
Poland continued their success in the men’s blitz chess event, with Igor Janik securing the gold medal. Richard Mladek of the Czech Republic and Richard Turcan of Slovakia finished in second and third place, respectively.
It was a stellar week of competition in Entebbe, with Polish players making a strong impact and showcasing their talent on the world stage.
