Portsmouth has made their first signing of the summer with the addition of defender Jordan Williams. The 24-year-old right-back has signed a three-year deal at Fratton Park after leaving Barnsley at the end of last season. Williams made 52 appearances in all competitions for the Tykes last season, captaining the side into the League One play-offs where they were defeated by Bolton Wanderers.
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho expressed his confidence in Williams, stating that despite his young age, he already has plenty of experience. Having played numerous games in the Championship and captained Barnsley, Williams possesses important leadership qualities that will benefit the team. Mousinho praised Williams’ defensive solidity and exciting attacking attributes.
After winning the League One title last season, Portsmouth will be competing in the second tier of English football for the first time in 12 years. The addition of Jordan Williams to the team signals their intent to compete at a higher level and continue their success in the upcoming season.
