The WPIAL offices are in full swing with spring bracketology as the steering committees meet to put together the brackets for the district softball playoffs and boys and girls lacrosse tournaments. The 2024 WPIAL softball playoffs brackets will be announced on the WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show at 2 p.m. on Thursday on Trib HSSN. Additionally, the brackets for the district baseball and boys volleyball playoffs will be released on Friday. The Baseball Playoff Pairing Show will be held at noon on Friday on Trib HSSN.
The WPIAL Class 3A playoff field is set with a possible addition on the final night of the regular season. In Section 1-3A, Upper St. Clair has secured a playoff berth, but a potential tie with Bethel Park could determine the final spot. Similarly, in Section 2-2A, Derry could join a four-way tie for second place with a win against Deer Lakes.
In boys volleyball, several WPIAL teams have the opportunity to secure a section title or a share of it with a win on Thursday. In Section 2-3A, North Allegheny and Shaler are both in contention for first place and can earn a share of the title with victories. Penn-Trafford will face Norwin in Section 3-3A and a win for either team could determine the section champion. North Catholic, in Section 1-2A, has a chance to share the title with a win against Bishop Canevin. Finally, in Section 3-2A, South Fayette can clinch the section championship with a win against Thomas Jefferson.
