The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the San Antonio area for Saturday, June 8, 2024. This will be the second Ozone Action Day in 2024. Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in San Antonio tomorrow.
On Ozone Action Days, individuals such as young children, older adults, and those with respiratory problems like asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis are at a higher risk of experiencing the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities. Those with asthma or difficulty breathing are urged to stay indoors.
To help maintain healthy air quality, residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in pollution-reducing activities. Suggestions include refueling vehicles after 6 p.m., avoiding drive-thrus at restaurants by going inside instead, turning vehicles off instead of idling, adjusting thermostats to higher temperatures from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., carpooling or using public transportation, and combining errands to reduce trips.
The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is urging everyone to take action in improving air quality and conserving energy. Detailed information about ground-level ozone can be found on Metro Health’s website.
