Punat Introduces A1 Smart Parking in Efforts to Combat Congestion: Promising Increased Flow and Reduced CO2 Emissions

A smart parking system has been implemented in Punt na Krk in order to alleviate traffic congestion and help locals and tourists find free parking spaces more easily. Covering three parking lots at the Vele vode and Pod topol locations with a total of 134 parking spaces, this service is a result of a partnership between A1 Hrvatska and the Municipality of Punat. Through the mobile application A1 Smart Parking, vehicle owners can quickly access information about available parking spaces, receive instructions on how to get there, and save the location of their parked vehicle.

As a tourist destination, Punt expects this smart parking solution to offer numerous benefits, including reducing traffic jams, saving time when searching for parking, reducing harmful emissions, protecting the environment, and enhancing the quality of tourists’ experience. This project, which covers 58% of all parking spaces in the town center from the bus station to the shipyard, is expected to increase traffic efficiency, energy savings, and reduce CO2 emissions, according to Daniel Strčić, head of Punat Municipality.

Funded by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, the Municipality of Punat partnered with A1 Croatia to implement this smart parking system through a public competition. Siniša Staničić, director of the ICT sales and solutions department at A1 Hrvatska, highlights the benefits of the system in saving time for both locals and tourists, reducing stress, and enabling more efficient traffic management.

In Croatia, the introduction of smart solutions like smart parking is crucial for enhancing public services in popular tourist destinations. A1 Croatia offers a range of smart solutions, including smart bins for waste disposal, sensors for air quality monitoring, and smart gas consumption meters. These technologies automate tasks, provide ease of use for users, and offer access to valuable information from the companies maintaining these systems, ultimately contributing to a more digitally connected and technologically advanced society.
