Qualification of Florida State Softball University for the World Series

Florida State emerged victorious against No. 14 Georgia with a score of 2-0 in the Super-Regionals held in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday, thereby securing a spot in the 2023 Women’s Collegiate World Series. This will be the 13th appearance by Seminoles in the WCWS. The No. 3 ranked FSU team is set to battle against No. 6 Oklahoma State next week at the U.S Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. The WCWS is scheduled to begin on June 1st.

In the first game held on Thursday night, FSU declared an 8-1 victory over the Bulldogs despite Georgia taking an early lead of 1-0 in the first inning. The Seminoles scored 8 points, 4 in the third inning and another 4 in the fifth inning to win the game. Kathryn Thundercoock tied the Seminole record for most appearances, totaling 179 games, and helped the team win with a season record of 29-3. Cary Madge topped the charts with three hits and three RBIs, adding to a nine-hit night.

In Game 2 held on Friday, the Seminoles clinched a 4-2 victory after scoring three runs in the third inning. Kaleigh Harding and Harry Wakather each had two hits, and Harding added two RBIs. Mac Leonard, who struck out four batters, was the game’s winner with two hits and one run.

In another milestone, Thundercoock played her 180th game on Friday, securing nine saves, which is the second-most in the NCAA and setting a new record for most appearances. The Seminoles have participated in the NCAA Tournament for 35th time and secured a score of 108-75.
