Rashford finds it difficult to accept not being called up for England squad

The i’s chief football writer, Daniel Storey, pointed out that Marcus Rashford’s poor form led to him being left out of the England squad by Gareth Southgate. Despite scoring nine goals in 49 games for Manchester United and the national team this season, Rashford’s performance was not enough to secure a spot in the provisional squad for the European Championship this summer.

Storey mentioned on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast that Rashford has been struggling for fitness and form since February. He also noted that England has other young players like Cole Palmer and Antony Gordon who can play in Rashford’s position. Additionally, Phil Foden could potentially fill that role, making Rashford an easy choice for Southgate to drop.

Facing disappointment and struggling for form at his club, this setback could serve as a reset for Rashford, according to Storey. While it will be tough for him, being only 26 years old gives Rashford a chance to bounce back from this setback and regain his form.
