Rashid Khan displayed his emotions during the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match in the Super 8 clash of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite being the hero of the match, one incident showed that even the best players can have their moments of frustration. Afghanistan was struggling at 93-5 with only 14 balls left in their innings when Rashid Khan walked out to bat. When they failed to convert a single run into two, Rashid Khan got angry at his teammate Karim Janat, throwing his bat towards him in frustration.
The incident occurred in the third ball of the final over of Afghanistan’s innings. Rashid believed a second run was possible, but Janat sent him back from halfway down the pitch. This angered the Afghanistan captain, who expressed his displeasure by throwing his bat and then quickly returning to his crease. Rashid’s frustration was evident as he had hit two sixes before the incident and was eager to get back on strike. Fortunately, he regained strike one ball later and finished the innings with a third six.
Rashid’s quick innings of 19 runs off 10 balls helped Afghanistan reach a total of 115, a target that Bangladesh struggled to chase. Rashid then shone with the ball, taking four crucial wickets in quick succession to derail Bangladesh’s run chase. Afghanistan secured a victory by 8 runs (via DLS method) as Bangladesh was bowled out for 105.
Afghanistan, with their eyes set on their first-ever semi-final appearance in a major ICC tournament, will face South Africa in the first semi-final on June 27 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. If they emerge victorious, they will advance to the final where they will meet either India or England in the 2024 T20 World Cup Final.
