Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli has been struggling with his form throughout the T20 World Cup 2024. In the recent India vs England semi-final match, Virat was dismissed early in the innings by Reece Topley, continuing his poor run in the tournament.
Despite his struggles in the World Cup, Virat had shown great form during the IPL 2024 season, scoring over 700 runs at a strike rate of above 150. His lack of runs in the World Cup has drawn criticism from various quarters, including former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.
Ravi Shastri, in an interview with Star Sports, pointed out that Virat was going for aggressive shots too early in his innings, which was causing him to get out cheaply. Shastri mentioned that Virat needs to spend more time at the crease and play in a more orthodox manner to find his rhythm and make runs.
Shastri emphasized the importance of rhythm and mentioned that Virat was trying to manufacture shots that weren’t there, particularly when he was not in top form. He explained that when a batsman is in great form, playing such shots comes naturally, but when runs are not coming easily, it becomes more challenging.
