Real Madrid has officially announced that their captain, Nacho Fernández, will be leaving the club this summer after a remarkable 23-year tenure. Nacho first joined the Madrid youth system in 2001 at the age of 10 and eventually made his senior debut in 2012. During his time with the club, he has achieved incredible success, winning six Champions League titles, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, four LaLiga titles, two Copas del Rey, and five Supercopas de España. His legacy includes being one of only five players in history to have won the Champions League/European Cup six times.
Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Pérez, praised Nacho’s dedication and leadership, stating that he has always been a shining example of improvement and has earned the admiration and love of all Real Madrid fans. Pérez affirmed that Real Madrid will always be Nacho’s home and thanked him for his contributions to the club.
Currently, Nacho is competing for Spain at EURO 2024 and is anticipated to join Al-Qadsiah, a newly-promoted Saudi Pro League team, on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid. Despite his departure, Nacho’s impact on Real Madrid’s history and achievements will always be remembered and celebrated.
