The “100 Deadliest Days” have come to an end, but emergency responders are urging drivers to remain cautious. They warn of a new threat that is rapidly growing around us. The Waco Volunteer Fire Department in York County has recently shared a post about a dangerous activity known as “the most extreme sport in all of the Midwest.” Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana refers to this activity as crossing county roads when the corn is high during this time of year. The risk increases when individuals unfamiliar with these roads travel into rural areas for events like the upcoming AppleJack Festival in Nebraska City, just 10 days away.

To ensure safety, experts emphasize that drivers should never assume the road is clear. It is crucial to slow down or even stop if visibility is limited around turns. Furthermore, drivers should be aware of farm equipment on the road and exercise patience while giving them extra space. Lastly, it is of utmost importance to always wear a seatbelt. By following these precautions, everyone can contribute to safer travel in rural areas.
