In encouraging news for the Red Sox, Tyler O’Neill’s injury update indicates that he may not need to go on the injured list following his collision with Rafael Devers. The manager, Alex Cora, gave an update on O’Neill’s condition, stating that he avoided a concussion and received stitches above his left eye. He is expected to sit out the next two games but hopes to return to the lineup on Thursday.
Despite the scary collision, Devers was able to avoid injury and is in the lineup for Tuesday’s game. He remained in Monday’s game after the incident with O’Neill. O’Neill has been a standout player for the Red Sox this season, with impressive offensive numbers through the first 17 games. He is currently tied for the MLB lead in home runs with seven.
Manager Cora also provided an update on starting pitcher Nick Pivetta, who is recovering from a flexor strain. Pivetta has been playing catch for the past three days as he works his way back to full strength. The Red Sox will be looking to bounce back from a loss in Game 1 of their series against Cleveland as they continue their four-game set.
