Klay Thompson is set to have discussions with several teams, including the Sixers, as NBA free agency begins. According to reports from ESPN and The Athletic, the Sixers are one of the teams Thompson plans to talk to, along with the Mavericks, Lakers, and Clippers. Thompson is reportedly leaving the Warriors and exploring sign-and-trade options.
In addition to Thompson, the Sixers also have interest in Paul George, another veteran wing player. George is expected to speak with the Clippers, Sixers, and Magic as free agency gets underway. It’s still early in the process, so it’s uncertain how everything will shake out, but the Sixers are looking to add outside shooting alongside stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Thompson, a five-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion, is known for his three-point shooting ability, with a career average of 41.3 percent from beyond the arc. Last season, he shot 38.7 percent on 9.0 attempts per game. Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has emphasized the importance of shooting around Embiid, recognizing that having shooters on the team makes him even more effective on the court.
