Report: Mets prospect Drew Gilbert closing in on return from hamstring injury.

Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert has been sidelined with a right hamstring strain since April 6 but is expected to make his return by mid-July. He had a solid start in Triple-A before his injury, with six hits and one homer in 25 at-bats over seven games. Despite the setback, the 23-year-old is still slated to make his big league debut in 2024, as he is the No. 2 prospect in the Mets’ system according to SNY.

The Mets have been getting strong production from their starting outfield trio of Brandon Nimmo, Harrison Bader, and Starling Marte this season. Gilbert, who played across two minor league levels last season for the Astros and Mets, had an impressive slash line of .289/.381/.487 over 116 games with 18 homers, 26 doubles, and 12 stolen bases. He scored 79 runs and drove in 59 RBI during his minor league campaign.
