Patrick Cantlay, the world’s fifth-ranked golfer, is parting ways with his hat sponsor Goldman Sachs. According to DealBook, the firm chose not to renew its contract with Cantlay, which was initially signed in 2020 for a three-year deal. Cantlay had been representing Goldman’s online consumer banking platform, Marcus, on his headwear, but more recently had been featuring just the Goldman name.

A Goldman spokesman told DealBook that the firm constantly evaluates its partnerships, and at this time, their logo will no longer appear on Cantlay’s hat. This news comes after Cantlay made headlines a couple of months ago when rumors emerged that he was protesting against not being paid to compete in the Ryder Cup by refusing to wear a hat. Cantlay denied the claims, stating that he wasn’t wearing a hat because the team’s headwear didn’t fit well.

In another development, Cantlay was supposed to play at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas in two weeks, but he was taken off the final commitment list along with his friend Xander Schauffele. These recent events mark a significant change for Cantlay in terms of sponsorship and upcoming tournament appearances.
