With just six days to go before they reunite as conference rivals, Texas and Texas A&M have reignited their longstanding rivalry. The latest twist in their rivalry is the reported departure of Aggies baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle to take on the same position at Texas. According to a report from Chip Brown of Horns247, Schlossnagle’s move comes shortly after Texas A&M’s loss to Tennessee in the College World Series finals.

During a postgame interview on Monday, Schlossnagle sidestepped a question regarding his potential move to Texas, calling it “selfish.” However, Brown reports that Schlossnagle plans to bring his coaching staff with him to Austin. This move comes on the heels of Texas A&M’s impressive runner-up finish in the College World Series.

Schlossnagle, who has coached at UNLV, TCU, and Texas A&M since 2002, has a track record of success with seven College World Series appearances. Meanwhile, Texas decided to part ways with coach David Pierce after eight seasons following the program’s failure to secure a national title since 2005. The Longhorns will officially join the SEC on Monday, setting the stage for a renewed competition between the two teams.
