An Arizona grand jury indicted 18 people for their alleged participation in a scheme to falsely certify Republican Donald Trump’s victory in the 2020 presidential election in the state. This attempt was made to reverse Trump’s defeat at the polls by Democrat Joe Biden. The complaint revealed that in December 2020, 11 Trump supporters met at the state headquarters of the Republican Party in Phoenix to sign a certificate stating the state’s 11 delegates were eligible to vote in the Electoral College, despite Biden winning Arizona. The Electoral College determines the president based on the party with the most votes in a state, with Arizona having 11 delegates.
After the meeting, the state Republican Party headquarters posted the certificate on social media and sent it to Congress and the National Archives. Those charged include Kelli Ward, Anthony Kern, Jake Hoffman, Michael Ward, Tyler Bowyer, Greg Safsten, Jim Lamon, Robert Montgomery, and activists Samuel Moorhead, Nancy Cottle, and Loraine Pellegrino. Former president Trump is mentioned as “unindicted co-conspirator 1.” Seven others were indicted, including Ted Goodman, a spokesperson for Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
Goodman stated that the indictments show that American justice is being used as a political tool. The names of the other indicted individuals have not been revealed. Meanwhile, in unrelated news, there are rumors of a possible fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. While this story continues to develop, it is important to stay informed about current events, both political and sports-related.
