A study published in the journal Alzheimer’s Research and Therapy has found that physical activity and diet can help slow the progression of early Alzheimer’s disease. The study showed that patients who made lifestyle changes such as eating healthy foods, exercising, and using stress management techniques experienced stabilization in their condition. On the other hand, patients who did not change their habits showed noticeable deterioration in thinking and memory over the same period.
The study included 51 Alzheimer’s patients between the ages of 45 to 90, who were offered a vegan diet high in complex carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Calorie intake was unlimited, and patients were encouraged to focus on healthy foods. They were also given options for exercise, such as walking or strength training for 30 minutes three times a week, as well as stress management techniques like yoga, breathing exercises, and Pilates.
This research highlights the importance of lifestyle changes in managing early Alzheimer’s disease. By incorporating a healthy diet, regular exercise, and stress management techniques, patients can potentially slow down the progression of the disease and improve their quality of life. It suggests that simple changes in daily habits can have a significant impact on the brain health of individuals with early-stage Alzheimer’s.
