Results from Saturday’s games: Scores, Winners, and Bracket Updates

The second day of the College World Series began on Saturday, with the teams in Bracket 2 taking the field for the first time. On Friday, Tennessee beat Florida State and North Carolina defeated Virginia. The ACC and SEC were featured once again on Saturday as Kentucky, NC State, Texas A&M, and Florida all competed.

In Bracket 2, Kentucky defeated NC State 5-4 with the game going into extra innings. This was Kentucky’s first win at the College World Series in program history and it was secured with a walk-off home run from Mitchell Daly in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Wildcats and Wolfpack combined for four home runs during the game.

Kentucky opened the scoring in the first inning, but NC State tied it up in the third inning. The Wildcats regained the lead with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, but the Wolfpack tied it again in the seventh inning. NC State briefly took the lead, but Kentucky tied it once again in the bottom of the inning before Daly’s home run won the game for the Wildcats.

Kentucky advanced in the winner’s bracket and will face the winner of Texas A&M and Florida. NC State will have to play in the elimination game against the loser of that matchup.
