Apr 4, 2024

Animal Health Norway, a pharmaceutical and technological solutions company, has partnered with First Water of Iceland, a land-based Atlantic Salmon farming project, to introduce an innovative fish monitoring technology in land-based salmon farms. The FALCON Biomass system, developed with over 25 years of experience in measuring fish in sea net-pens, combines advanced vision technology with extensive research to provide key insights into fish growth.

MSD Animal Health launched the FALCON Biomass system at Aquanor 2023 in Trondheim, Norway, leveraging their expertise in vision technology, artificial intelligence, and biomass measurements. The system has been successfully implemented in sea net pens across Norway, Chile, and the UK. Dafydd Morris, general manager of MSD Animal Health Aqua Europe, expressed excitement about partnering with First Water and highlighted the potential for vision technology in the land-based fish farming sector.

The FALCON system offers real-time updates on animal growth, size distribution, and overall biomass, giving farmers valuable information to make informed production decisions. Kristinn MarinĂ³sson of First Water of Iceland expressed eagerness to integrate the FALCON Biomass system into their land-based fish farm, emphasizing the benefits it will bring in monitoring fish growth and making data-driven decisions. This partnership is expected to support the sustainable development and expansion of operations in Iceland’s aquaculture industry.
