The newly elected president of Argentina, Javier Milei, is seen as a reason for hope by the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. His diplomatic advisor Igor Zhovkva told EFE Agency on Tuesday that the possibility of a summit between Ukraine and Latin America is being considered in light of Milei’s election. Zhovkva expressed confidence that relations with Argentina will intensify, especially since Milei has demonstrated clear moral support for Ukraine.

Zelensky’s advisor mentioned that Milei has demonstrated his support for Ukraine by expressing condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the military aggression carried out against Ukraine. There is optimism for closer bilateral relations between Ukraine and Argentina, especially in areas such as cooperation in the agricultural sector.

With the election of Milei, it is possible that Argentina could host a summit between Ukraine and Latin American countries, further strengthening the ties between these regions. Zelensky has previously expressed his desire for Latin American leaders to visit Ukraine, and there is hope that Milei’s election will help facilitate this.

Earlier this year, Ukraine made it a priority to gain support and presence in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Zelensky has been proactive in seeking international support for Ukraine’s cause, and it is hoped that leaders like Milei will further bolster these efforts.
