Rodgers and Guthrie to Hold Health Subcommittee Hearing on CMS Innovation and Programs

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Subcommittee on Health Chair Brett Guthrie (R-KY) have announced a subcommittee hearing titled “Checking-In on CMMI: Assessing the Transition to Value-Based Care.” The purpose of the hearing is to evaluate the progress of the CMS Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) in transitioning to value-based care.

In a joint statement, Chairs Rodgers and Guthrie emphasized the importance of government programs keeping pace with medical innovation to improve health outcomes and save taxpayer dollars. They noted that while CMMI was established over a decade ago with significant funding and authority, it has not yet demonstrated successful outcomes. The hearing will provide Members with the opportunity to hear from the head of CMMI about the challenges they face in achieving their mission and consider potential steps Congress could take to ensure beneficiaries are best served.

The hearing, titled “Checking-In on CMMI: Assessing the Transition to Value-Based Care,” is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The witness will be Elizabeth Fowler, Ph.D, J.D., Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The notice for the hearing states that it will be open to the public and press, with live streaming available online at https://energycommerce.house.gov/. Any questions about the hearing can be directed to Emma Schultheis with the Committee staff at Emma.Schultheis@mail.house.gov, while press-related inquiries should be directed to Christopher Krepich at Christopher.Krepich@mail.house.gov.
