On Monday, the Oakglen baseball team won the Class AA Region 1, Section 1 title with a walk-off victory to put the East Fairmont back in first place, 11-10. This win came just one week after the team’s victory in the WVSSAC Class AA Region 1 Round 1 Tournament at home. Now, the Golden Bears are champs and are traveling to the provinces.
As the No. 4-seeded team, the Golden Bears shocked No. 3 East Fairmont in Game 1 of the section finals. They scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, securing the title with an 11-10 win. Chase Patterson hit the game-winning double to end the game and had three RBIs in the contest.
Robert Carter started the two-out rally with an RBI hit, and Jared Hissam knocked in a two-run base to make it one run. This set up the game-winning hit for Patterson. The Golden Bears were in the lead early on, with 5-0. However, the Bees rallied in the seventh inning to hold a 10-6 lead. Preston Cole pitched 2/3 of the final inning to win as a reliever, while Hissam started and fanned 4 2/3 innings.
