The New York appeals court issued a ruling on Tuesday that Rudy Giuliani, the former personal lawyer to President Donald Trump, is to be disbarred immediately due to his involvement in spreading baseless claims of election fraud in the 2020 election. Giuliani’s name has been removed from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York, and he is prohibited from practicing law in the state as per the court’s order.

The court stated in its 31-page ruling that Giuliani made “demonstrably false and misleading statements” to courts, lawmakers, and the public regarding the 2020 election in an attempt to bolster President Trump’s narrative of widespread voter fraud. The ruling emphasized the seriousness of Giuliani’s misconduct, attributing it to his intentional misuse of his high-profile position as Trump’s personal attorney.

Giuliani’s actions were condemned by the court for attacking the integrity of the U.S. electoral process and contributing to national unrest following the 2020 Presidential election. The court criticized Giuliani for violating key principles of the legal profession and failing to show remorse for his actions. Giuliani, who is currently facing criminal charges in Arizona and Georgia related to his efforts to overturn the election results, did not immediately respond to the court’s decision.

On top of his disbarment in New York, Giuliani also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year after being ordered to pay $148 million in damages to two Georgia election workers he defamed. The legal and financial troubles facing Giuliani are a direct result of his involvement in propagating false claims of election fraud, highlighting the severe consequences of spreading misinformation and undermining the democratic process.
