San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has not been participating in the team’s voluntary offseason program, as confirmed by coach Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday. Shanahan stated that it is voluntary for all players, so he is not too concerned about McCaffrey’s absence, but acknowledged that he has not been present. In addition to McCaffrey, receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings have also been absent from the program.

It is unclear whether McCaffrey’s absence is contract-related, as Shanahan mentioned that he is not sure if that is the case for any of the players who are not attending. Shanahan emphasized that the offseason program is voluntary and that they will have to wait and see when it becomes mandatory.

Despite rumors that McCaffrey’s absence may be due to him getting married soon, Shanahan did not confirm this as the reason for his absence. McCaffrey is signed through 2025 and is due to make $11.8 million in 2024, still leading all players at his position with an annual average of $16.015 million. Aiyuk, on the other hand, has expressed his desire for a new deal but has also been absent from the voluntary offseason program.
