Saab Unveils Giraffe 1X Compact Radar Module

During the Eurosatory 2024 defense exhibition in Paris, Saab introduced a new compact radar module for its Giraffe 1X multi-mission radar. This new addition is designed to enhance operational flexibility and mobility, featuring an antenna that can fold down into the lightweight radar with the press of a button. The module has a small footprint and a search area of up to 75 kilometers (46.6 miles), making it suitable for urgent missions in areas with limited operational infrastructure.

Saab stated that the compact module provides an all-in-one radar solution in various operational environments. Carl-Johan Bergholm, a Saab official, highlighted how they are leveraging the capabilities of the Giraffe 1X radar to offer customers different deployment options that can maximize their operational effectiveness. The Giraffe 1X is a high-performing 3D radar known for providing effective ground-based air defense.

With the ability to detect hostile drones and incoming missiles while providing commanders with engagement quality target data, the Giraffe 1X weighs less than 150 kilograms (330 pounds) and can be integrated into any mobile platform or fixed structure. Saab announced that the Giraffe 1X radar and the Compact Radar Module can now be delivered as one operational item, supporting a wide range of missions.
